A Canticle for Leibowitz

If you are reading A Canticle for Leibowitz, post your comments below. Remember to post a comment after you read each third of your book. Each comment should include the book's title, the portion of the book you read, and at least 10 response sentences. (Take a look at the list of Response Starters on this blog.) Your responses should show that you are reading and thinking about your book. When you finish the book, do a Final response. (Refer to your handout or the copy posted on the class web page.)

Your first comment shows an interest in the book and attention to details. It's about half summary, half commentary; in your nest comment, try to focus more on giving your reactions to the book.

Your last three comments about Canticle really show some deep thinking! You explored the implications of the novel's story quite well. I like your observation that the last part of the book mimics our own world (or at least Miller's world of the Cold War). I agree that the overall idea is hope. Consider that, despite the warnings of the Cold War and this book, we haven't succeeded in blowing ourselves up yet (through certain parts of the world seem to be doing it piecemeal). The one suggestion I have for your novel blog comments is that you could have addressed more of the details of the novel. You handled the big ideas well, but an explanation of where the ideas came from in the text would add to your commentary.
